Period 6

According to the Education Endowment Foundation, “targeted small group and one-to-one interventions have the potential for the largest immediate impact on attainment”. With this in mind, our dedicated teachers offer their time to support pupils with additional revision lessons at the end of the school day. This is called ‘Period 6’.

This is offered mainly to Year 11 pupils, but sometimes to other year groups throughout the year in different subjects, to support their learning and revision in the lead up to GCSE exams. Period 6 sessions are a little different to ‘normal’ lessons and target pupils in small groups according to need and where pupils will most benefit from some additional support. These lessons are delivered by Fairfield staff and planned and structured in order to maximise pupil progress.

Period 6 is run in three separate cohorts throughout the year, allowing for pupils to attend and engage with a variety of different subject areas throughout the year. We see clearly that this targeted intervention has a positive impact both on pupil progress, contributing to our consistently outstanding GCSE results, but also the confidence levels of pupils and how well equipped by the time they move on from Fairfield.
